Bryan Jones

Some people race BMX for a season. Some race for a decade.

Bryan "Flyin' Bryan" Jones has spent a lifetime keeping the sport alive.

His BMX journey began in 1980 with a borrowed copy of Bicycle Motocross Action magazine. A fellow student brought the magazine to junior high school, and after taking it home to read, Bryan was mesmerized. The photographs, the bicycles, and the excitement of BMX racing captured his imagination.

From that moment forward, he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

More than four decades later, he is still doing it.

Bryan's first race took place at the American Royal Indoor BMX Race in Kansas City, Missouri. Soon afterward he raced at the horse-stall track at Benjamin Stables before becoming a regular at Berm Busters, Track Two, Optimist VFW, Heartland BMX, and eventually today's Raytown BMX and Blue Springs BMX. His first ABA National in Champaign, Illinois, opened the door to national competition and began a journey that has continued for over forty years.

Throughout that journey Bryan has represented several respected teams, including Midwest Cyclery, Quaker State/Minit Lube, Bike Source/Specialized, Hazardous Gear, and today Castle BMX Group (CBG)/Majesty Racing, with support from Dominion Components and Hawk Racing.

More Than a Racer While Bryan has enjoyed a long and successful racing career, competition has never been his only passion.

Like many Kansas City riders of his generation, he embraced freestyle BMX during its explosive growth in the 1980s, becoming a first-generation BMX Brigade member while continuing to race. Rather than seeing racing and freestyle as separate worlds, Bryan simply loved riding bicycles.

That passion eventually grew into something much larger.

In 2010, Bryan founded Majesty Racing, beginning with custom number plates and apparel before expanding into BMX frames, forks, and components. Although the company continues to evolve, its purpose has remained the same—to support riders and give back to the sport that has given Bryan so much throughout his life.

Influences Bryan credits Jon Baanders of Midwest Cyclery as the biggest influence in helping him get started, remembering Jon's patience and willingness to answer endless questions from a young racer. He also acknowledges the influence of Drew Jameson, Curt Bales, George Stewart, Tim Sparks, Doug Prather, Steve Gibson, Dean Berry, Gene Cook, Tim Applegate, David Little, and many others who inspired him. Bryan is quick to point out that BMX has never been about one individual—it has always been about the community.

Legacy

More than four decades after opening that first magazine, Bryan Jones remains one of Kansas City BMX's enduring torchbearers.

He has witnessed the rise and fall of local tracks, raced through multiple generations, embraced both racing and freestyle, built a BMX company, and continued supporting riders long after many of his contemporaries stepped away from the sport.

Bryan understands that preserving BMX isn't simply about remembering the past. It's about helping the next generation discover the same excitement he felt as a junior high student turning the pages of Bicycle Motocross Action magazine for the very first time.

As Bryan often says:

"I plan to keep the BMX torch burning bright."

For Bryan Jones, those aren't just words—they're a way of life.

For more than forty years, he has carried that torch forward, ensuring that the passion which first inspired him continues to inspire the generations that follow.
